Magnetic Field Measurement of Air Freight according to IATA 953
The IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations – Packing Instructions 953 stipulates regulations and limit values, labeling and form requirements for the shipment of magnetic material by air freight.
Before shipping by air, packages must be checked for compliance with the magnetic limit values.

IATA 953 for the Transportation of Magnetic Material by Air Freight
According to IATA “Dangerous Goods Regulations – Packing Instructions 953” a package with magnetic material may be sent by air freight,
- which generates a magnetic field of 0.525 µT or a compass deviation of more than 2° at a distance of 2.1 m,
- however, a magnetic field of 0.525 µT or a compass deviation of no more than 2° is generated at a distance of 4.6 m.
The necessary labeling and form requirements are also listed.
Special permits are required to transport packages that generate more than 0.525 µT or 2° compass deviation at a distance of 4.6 m.
